Biography
Simon Witter is an international award-winning Producer/Director, with well-rounded multi-platform media experience, whose documentaries have been broadcast in primetime on BBC1, ITV1, PBS, ARTE and ABC1.
He has been writing, directing and producing arts documentaries for over a decade now, and before that magazine shows. He has also worked on live studio shows and OBs, and has copious experience of foreign location shoots and living/working abroad.
He dedicates every ounce of his energy to the job at hand, loves the challenge and camaraderie of a high-pressure production and brings a well-rounded creative versatility to any project, thanks to his wide experience in print journalism, radio, new media, advertising, fashion/concert promotion, A&R and beyond. He puts presenters at their ease and, as an interviewer, has been wringing unexpected revelations out of celebrities for years.
His distinctive visual flair, understanding of complex stories and passionate interest in all aspects of the modern world have enabled him to make memorable primetime and niche documentaries, and the last 6-part series he wrote and directed was described by The New York Times as "one of the most daring, and perhaps the hippest, program in the recent history of PBS."
'
His work has won prizes from Montreux to New York, been nominated for both a Grammy and an International Emmy, and he most recently won Gold World Medal at the New York Festivals, 2012, in the category "Cultural Issues" for 'On The Trail Of Easy Rider', a 4-part series about social change in America over the last 40 years that he wrote and directed.
He is also excited by the cross-platform possibilities of new media, and has conceptualised successful websites.
Despite the continental-European bias in his recent credentials, he is English, has always lived and worked here, and has a sophisticated understanding of our culture and media.
