Biography
I have been producing award-winning and genuinely ground-breaking television documentaries for over 20 years, including several “television firsts”. Programmes I have worked on have won, or been nominated for, all the major TV awards, including EMMY, BAFTA and RTS awards. Most recently, I produced, directed and wrote two films in the latest BBC1 series, The Mating Game, filmed in 8K for Silverback Films – first shown in October 2021. A Cambridge-educated zoologist, I spent 12 years at the BBC’s Natural History Unit re-invigorating formats and producing a diverse range of series and programmes. Major series included: Elephant Diaries, Abyss Live, Wild in your Garden (the origin of the BAFTA-winning, Springwatch), Planet Earth and Frozen Planet. As a freelance, I have produced and directed programmes and series for BBC One, BBC TWO, ITV1, Animal Planet, Disneynature, PBS, Netflix and National Geographic, including Desert Seas, Wild Hawaii and Nature Nuts with Julian Clary. In the past few years I have worked at Silverback Films in a wide range of roles, including as safety consultant and sequence director on Our Planet. I was the development producer on several Landmark series for both the BBC and Netflix, including those currently in production. I am the Producer / Edit Director for Disneynature feature films, Growing up Wild and Penguins – Life on the Edge. I have also consulted on numerous projects and have helped develop several projects that have resulted in commissions. I have filmed in countries throughout the world and have been the original script-writer on most of my films. I am HSE-qualified for diving work and my specialist expertise is in underwater and Deep Ocean filming.
